Internet Marketing FAQs

Like all students, your question, no matter how simple or daft it may sound, will be plaguing someone else - so ask it!! Please email with your question, we'll answer it and, without puuting your name to it, post it below.

1. What's a hit?
2. Does it cost to be in Google?
3. Does resubmitting do any good?
4. Mine is a new site - what can you do?

What's a hit?

A hit is a request to the server for some info. One visitor could cause 20 hits when he lands on the home page if that page has a dozen images. Measure traffic in sessions, which is one person arriving at the site, and you'll get a much clearer indication of performance.

Does it cost to be in Google?

No, and if any tries to charge you for search engine submissions, walk away.

Does resubmitting do any good?

Would you tell your Postman your address every time you saw him? Resubmitting does more harm that good. It's much akin to annoying the Postie.

Mine is a new site - what can you do?

New sites simply don't get spidered by the search engines unless we can convince Mr Robot that the site is ok. We'll get in on MSN and Google within a month, it's then a matter of gently feeding in links so as not to overdo things.
